Not what you'd expect from a label:
In January 2009, a father and son team founded Porto Franco Records in the diverse Mission District of San Francisco in
response to the need for a record label that held the value of the artist above profit. The name Porto Franco, or 'free port',
reflects the core values of the company, functioning primarily as a port of access through which musicians
are able to reach the public. The artists are free to share music on their own terms, unbound by long-term,
multi-album industry contracts. Artists collaborate with Porto Franco Records on an album-by-album basis,
at their own pace and of their own accord. In exchange, Porto Franco Records devotes its efforts towards
production, publicity, and management, leaving the artists free to concentrate on their music and connect
with the people who support them. Dedicated to bringing communities together, Porto Franco Records
strives to keep the fingers of the public on the pulse of this vibrant though sometimes underground San
Francisco music culture.
In essence, Porto Franco Records focuses on three goals: to promote the remarkable musicians that
call San Francisco home, to strengthen the community's connection with the music scene, and to uphold
the freedom of the musicians so that they may continue to do what they love to do, on their own terms.
